As part of CSA’s on-going involvement in the phased redevelopment of land at Shorncliffe Garrison, Folkestone, our ecologists have just successfully obtained an EPS bat licence from Natural England – ahead of schedule. This will allow the demolition of derelict buildings, clearing the way for Taylor Wimpey to commence the next phase of their development.
A small number of minor common pipistrelle and brown long-eared bat roosts were located in this phase, but this is just the latest stage in a long-term mitigation and enhancement strategy for bats at the site. There are more ‘Bats in the Barracks’ and a number of further bat licenses will be required, with mitigation planned to include a dedicated bat loft and over a hundred bat boxes and roosting units.
