New homes granted planning consent in Didcot, Oxfordshire

South Oxfordshire District Council’s (SODC) Planning Committee have resolved to grant outline planning consent for up to 166 new dwellings at Didcot in Oxfordshire. CSA’s Urban Design, Landscape, Ecology and Arboriculture teams worked closely together in preparing the application on behalf of Barwood Land.

The site lies on the northern edge, but outside of, Great Western Park, a 3,300 home sustainable urban extension of Didcot. Despite having little previous planning pedigree, SODC agreed with the planning application submission that the site was suitable for development, stating that “the proposal would constitute sustainable development offering social and economic benefits”.

The masterplan prepared by CSA had to respond to a number of constraints, which included traffic noise from the adjacent A4130, the route of a ‘claimed’ footpath and a number of large mature trees.  The proposals for the site also had to safeguard land for the potential future widening of the A4130.
