Newt population doubles following mitigation success

LinkedIn

Our ecologists have completed monitoring work at Butlers Green, Haywards Heath – a site developed by Taylor Wimpey for residential housing (40 units) in 2014. Mitigation for Great Crested Newts (GCN) and Dormice included new grassland, woodland and aquatic habitats within the development and on the adjacent Local Nature Reserve.  The final round of GCN monitoring this spring shows that both the restored and the newly created wildlife pond on site have been colonized by GCN and used for breeding. Overall the GCN population recorded at this site has doubled in size since 2014.
