Tom joined CSA in early 2026, bringing with him a lifelong fascination with the natural world, particularly plants and lichens, as well as the complex ecological relationships that structure ecosystems and connect organisms across the biosphere. This passion led him to a BSc in Biology, an MSc in Botanical Conservation and a PhD focusing on the spatial ecology of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi.

Alongside his academic background, Tom has taken part in a variety of environmental voluntary work, including alien invasive plant management and bat hibernation surveys, both in the UK and abroad. Before joining CSA he worked in medical diagnostics, but made the transition in order to align his professional career more closely with his ecological interests.

As an Assistant Ecologist, Tom looks forward to strengthening his botanical identification skills and gaining experience across the full range of protected species survey work.
