CSA Environmental’s Brighton Ecology team has been working with The Hunter Group to design and register the Stonehouse Farm Habitat Bank near Plummers Plain, West Sussex, a site that is now fully registered, with units sales available through the Gaia marketplace.
The 100+ acre site comprises existing modified grassland and lowland mixed deciduous woodland, with a habitat management and enhancement programme that includes:
🌳 Woodland, tree and thicket planting – native woodland and mixed-scrub will create strengthened wildlife corridors, with well-developed edges, clearings and glades managed for diverse habitat structure and diversity
🌸 Grassland enhancement to diversity species and structure and deliver ‘other neutral grassland’ units
🌿 Hedgerow creation and enhancement
The result is 95.9 registered BNG units now available for developers seeking off-site biodiversity net gain within Horsham District and the High Weald National Character Area. The scheme is backed by RSK Wilding as the responsible body.
For CSA, habitat bank projects like this represent what BNG can do when it’s genuinely planned from the ground up, Â identifying what a site can become, translating that into registered units, and creating long-term biodiversity commitments.
