Providing expert advice on ecology, landscape, arboriculture and urban design, the assessments influenced the preparation of a Development Framework Plan and Illustrative Masterplan on behalf of Gladman Developments, to demonstrate a possible layout. The design was sensitive to the existing mature hedgerows and trees, and the location of breeding great crested newts in the surrounding area, in order to create strong ecological corridors with new aquatic opportunities. The application had previously been refused by South Somerset District Council in January 2018, however the consultant team were able to demonstrate that the challenges could be overcome through appropriate design, and that the proposals accord with planning policy and highway safety, which was supported by the inspector.
